Passau is often called the "Bavarian Venice". The old town sits on a narrow peninsula between the Danube and the Inn, is mostly flat and is wonderful to explore on foot. Our favourite tips:
St. Stephen's Cathedral
baroque splendour and the world's largest cathedral organ, with 17,974 pipes. From May, midday concerts take place Monday to Saturday at 12:00 (ask at reception for current dates)
Three Rivers Point
at the tip of the old town you can watch the Danube, the Inn and the Ilz meet in three different colours
Veste Oberhaus
the medieval fortress high above the city offers the best view of Passau and a museum of local history. A shuttle bus runs from the old town, so you can skip the steep climb
Old Town Hall & Höllgasse
the magnificent town hall on the Danube and, just next to it, Höllgasse with its studios and small galleries
Glass Museum
around 15,000 glass pieces from baroque to Art Nouveau, an easy walk from the hotel.
Boat trips
Three Rivers sightseeing boats leave from the Danube promenade close to the hotel – seeing Passau from the water is something special
